McCaffrey Strike Seals It For Tummery @ Fountain Lane

McCaffrey Strike Seals It For Tummery @ Fountain Lane

September 3rd, 2022

Tummery travelled to fountain lane today to take on Wes Fergusons beragh swifts. On a day that was totally different from last week with temperatures closer to autumn/winter an rain coming out of the sky straight. Fountain lane is a credit to beragh swifts the playing surface is like a carpet. Beragh would prove a tough test for Ryan’s tummery as they would be looking to get one over on tummery from last season after two close contests last year that went the way of the men in claret an blue.

Ryan named one change to the starting 11 from last week Ciaran Beacom coming in at centre half for Blain Campbell.

Matthew Gilchrist got proceedings underway and the first twenty five minutes was all tummery, chances for Kyle McCrory and Martin Hughes who hit straight at Peter ward in the beragh nets when maybe the better option was to square the ball for McCaffrey who was unmarked in the box. Martin Hughes also had a shot just wide of the far post. The last twenty minutes of the half beragh woke up and tummery became more involved with the referee than playing there own game feeling they weren’t getting the rub of the green with the referee and that allowed beragh to pile on the pressure with Kris Hamilton shooting from the edge of the box and McCrory gathering comfortably, Milan matecz also had a shot saved by McCrory and a last ditch flick from Declan Molloy changed the direction of the ball away from the beragh attacker McCullagh who would of had a tap in at the back post. Referee Gilchrist blew the half time whistle with zero injury time and Ryan brought his troops in to the dressing room out of the rain for the half time break.

Referee Gilchrist got proceedings started for the second half an within 1 minute beragh had a free kick from a dangerous position upstepped Eamon Donnelly to deliver an his delivery evaded all the beragh attackers going behind for a goal kick much to Tummery’s relief. Tummery edged there way back in to the game 10 minutes in to the second half after a period of pressure from beragh. Kyle McCrory was withdrawn due to an injury on 58 minutes replaced by Paudi Dillon on the wing. Paudi had an immediate effect with his ball control an pace, Ryan Hanna sprayed the ball wide to Paudi who burnt his marker to the end line an whipped the ball across picking out Gerry McCullagh at the front post who bundled the ball to the net to put tummery 1 to the good. Milan matecz was booked shortly after for a bad late tackle on Ryan Hanna in the left hand corner. Lee McCullagh also lucky not to be booked for simulation when he went down in the box when Mickey Logue clearly won the ball.

On 73 minutes Tummery’s played there best move of the game with great link up play between Hughes and Hanna and Dillon whom teed up McCaffrey and he missed the target it would of been a wonderful team goal. On 75 minutes Niall McCrory in the tummery net wasn’t to be beaten when he made a wonderful save from Lee mcculllagh. On 79 minutes luke Henderson headed straight at Niall McCrory from a delivery from the right an Niall flicked it over the bar. The resulting corner was dealt with well by Molloy and beacom who looked solid at the back with Mickey Logue beside them.

On 80 minutes referee Gilchrist made a strange decision when Kevin McAleer was through on goal and was brought down deliberately from behind at the edge of the 18 yard box with just the keeper in front of him and referee Gilchrist waved play on a truly strange decision. On 87 minutes that man again that scores from distance aidy McCaffrey hit the net from 35 yards, he got the ball an looked up an spotted netminder ward off his line and chipped the ball over his head an hit the net to seal the victory for tummery sending the tummery faithful in to ecstasy.

Eimhin Cunningham was introduced also was lorcan mcgrady. Tummery rearguard who looked solid all day supported by the pressing of aidy, Ryan, an Paudi and the hard working Martin Hughes ensured tummery would leave with all three points and a back to back clean sheet.

Thanks to beragh swifts for a hard fought encounter today an wish them all the best for the rest of the season, that pitch and facilities is truly a credit to your club.

Thanks to Matthew Gilchrist for overseeing proceedings today.

And to our travelling supporters we thank you for staying to the very end an supporting our lads on a horrible day being behind the lads from minute one to minute 90.
